Joram Puumala

I am a machine learning engineer with extensive software engineering background. In particular, I am interested in deep learning methods and computer vision. However, I'm naturally a curious person, who easily ends up in the rabbit hole to study other interesting related topics.

I maintain a blog on topics mostly revolving around machine learning, but occasionally might write about something else. To start this blog, I was inspired by people like Gregory Gundersen, Andrej Karpathy and Christopher Olah.

Aside from computers and machine learning, I enjoy reading, music and sports. Especially ball games such as ice hockey and tennis are close to my heart. I am also particularly interested in electric vehicles and their technology.

Thanks to Gregory Gundersen for sharing this minimalistic theme.

Some Projects

ADR Detection was a project to detect dangerous goods carried on roads (in ADR member states). The project involves heavy use of YOLOv4 algorithm, which gives the coordinates of the trucks and hazmat plates. The plates and truck detections are associated to detect dangerous goods, which are then tracked by DeepSORT/SORT.
CoSSH a bulk configuration tool for Advantech's industrial routers. It's kind of like Ansible, but simpler and more specifc.
